EDU 943 Cultivating a Community of Readers
Cultivate a community of readers within your K-6 classroom. Connect with local and global reading initiatives while exploring the research, practices, and resources available to grow students into lifelong, passionate readers.
This course provides an opportunity for educators to explore the importance and benefits of helping to build community in their classrooms through reading. The practices and research discussed will enhance relationships and instruction for K-6 learners and lay the foundation for all other classroom instruction. Experiences and discussions around topics such as independent reading, read aloud, assessment, and goal setting will assist teachers in examining their own identities as a reader so that they can replicate the same opportunity for their students. The content of this course will benefit student readers by boosting their comprehension and engagement while building relationships and a culture of reading. The content of this course will benefit educators as they have the opportunity to intentionally implement practices, receive ongoing feedback, and expand their access to a knowledgeable, supportive professional reading community.
